Medical Technologies- testing what it means to be human

Purpose of my project:

The purpose of my catalyst conference project is to raise awareness of rising medical technologies and start conversations about how they will affect us, whether the technologies are ethical, and how do we define “human”?

Introduction to bioethics

First technology analyzed- cryonics

Second technology- artificial wombs

Third technology- designer babies

My Project:

I gave this presentation (the sides of which you see above) to my classmates, and held a 30 minute discussion afterwards. I encouraged them to be aware of these medical technologies as they go about their lives, and to use bioethical principles and analysis strategies in their daily life. The questions I got were fascinating, ranging from whether the cryonics patients had their eyes open when they were frozen to the concerns of overpopulation and eugenics. I raised awareness in my community, and I will continue this conversation and learning opportunity throughout the year.

Wow! Really cool project! You were very explicit about each genetic technology and went in depth on all of them! Would you ever consider being cryonically frozen?

I would consider being frozen if the technology advances and proves to be successful!

Hi Luisa! This is so cool! You went into such depth that it was not only easy to follow, but also super engaging and interesting! Great job!
